Śoka-śamana: Kṛṣṇa’s Consolation and Nārada’s Exempla to Sṛñjaya
Chapter 29
यस्मै वद्ठिवरर प्रादात् ततो वव्रे वरान् गयः । ददतो यो3क्षयं वित्तं धर्मे श्रद्धा च वर्धताम्
yasmai vahnivaraḥ prādāt tato vavre varān gayaḥ | dadato yo 'kṣayaṁ vittaṁ dharme śraddhā ca vardhatām ||
ಅಗ್ನಿದೇವನು ವರ ನೀಡಿದವನಾದ ಗಯನು ಆಗ ತನ್ನ ವರಗಳನ್ನು ಆಯ್ದನು—“ಧರ್ಮಾರ್ಥವಾಗಿ ನಾನು ದಾನ ಮಾಡುವ ಧನ ಅಕ್ಷಯವಾಗಿರಲಿ; ಧರ್ಮದಲ್ಲಿ ನನ್ನ ಶ್ರದ್ಧೆ ಸದಾ ವೃದ್ಧಿಯಾಗಲಿ.”
वायुदेव उवाच
True boons are ethical: one should seek inexhaustible capacity to give for dharma and a steadily growing śraddhā (faith/commitment) in righteousness, rather than merely personal enjoyment.
Vāyu recounts that after Agni grants a boon, Gaya responds by choosing boons aligned with charity and dharma—asking that his righteous gifts never run out and that his devotion to dharma continually increase.
