परिव्राजक-आचारः (Conduct of the Wandering Renunciant) — Mahābhārata, Śānti-parva 269
आगमाश्च यथाकाले संकल्पाश्न यथाक्रमम् । अपेतकामक्रोधानां दुश्चराचारकर्मणाम्
āgamāś ca yathākāle saṅkalpāś ca yathākramam | apetakāmakrodhānāṃ duścarācārakarmaṇām ||
ಅವರಲ್ಲಿ ಯಥಾಕಾಲದಲ್ಲಿ ಶಾಸ್ತ್ರಜ್ಞಾನ ಉದಯಿಸುತ್ತಿತ್ತು; ಯಥಾಕ್ರಮದಲ್ಲಿ ಸತ್ಯಸಂಕಲ್ಪ ಪಕ್ವವಾಗುತ್ತಿತ್ತು. ಕಾಮ-ಕ್ರೋಧಗಳನ್ನು ತ್ಯಜಿಸಿದ ಅವರ ಆಚರಣೆಗಳು ಮತ್ತು ನಿಯಮಗಳು ಅಷ್ಟೊಂದು ಕಠಿಣವಾಗಿದ್ದವು—ಇತರರಿಗೆ ಅವನ್ನು ಅನುಸರಿಸುವುದು ಅತ್ಯಂತ ದುಸ್ತರ.
कपिल उवाच
Spiritual maturity is portrayed as orderly and timely: as desire and anger are relinquished, scriptural understanding and steadfast resolve arise naturally, and one’s disciplined conduct becomes rigorous—often difficult for ordinary people to imitate.
Kapila is describing a class of disciplined practitioners: they have abandoned kāma and krodha, and as a result their lives exhibit demanding ethical and practical disciplines, alongside a progressive awakening of scriptural knowledge and firm intention.
