Educational Q&A

A householder should renounce quarrels—especially with close dependents like one’s daughter and servants—because abandoning contentious speech and conflict is presented as a purifying discipline that leads to freedom from sin.

In the Śānti Parva’s didactic setting, Vyāsa delivers moral instruction on righteous living. This verse is a concise injunction within that instruction, emphasizing domestic harmony and restraint as part of dharma.
