मृत्यु-काल-प्रबोधनम् (Instruction on Mortality, Time, and Truth) — Mahābhārata, Śānti-parva 169

तस्य क्षयमुपागम्य ततो भिक्षामयाचत । प्रतिश्रयं च वासार्थ भिक्षां चैवाथ वार्षिकीम्‌,ब्राह्मणने उसीके घर जाकर भिक्षाके लिये याचना की। दस्युने ब्राह्मणको रहनेके लिये एक घर देकर वर्षभर निर्वाह करनेके योग्य अन्नकी भिक्षाका प्रबन्ध कर दिया, उपयुक्त नया वस्त्र दिया और उसकी सेवामें एक युवती दासी भी दे दी, जो उस समय पतिसे रहित थी

tasya kṣayam upāgamya tato bhikṣām ayācata | pratiśrayaṃ ca vāsārthaṃ bhikṣāṃ caivātha vārṣikīm ||

ಅವನ ಸಂಗ್ರಹ ಕ್ಷಯವಾದಾಗ ಅವನು ಭಿಕ್ಷೆಯನ್ನು ಯಾಚಿಸಿದನು. ವಾಸಾರ್ಥವಾಗಿ ಆಶ್ರಯವನ್ನೂ, ಹಾಗೆಯೇ ಒಂದು ವರ್ಷದ ನಿರ್ವಹಣೆಗೆ ತಕ್ಕ ಭಿಕ್ಷೆಯನ್ನೂ ಬೇಡಿದನು.
