त्रिवर्गविचारः

Tri-varga Deliberation: Dharma, Artha, Kāma

धर्मस्य विधयो नैके ये वै प्रोक्ता महर्षिभि: | स्वं स्वं विज्ञानमाश्रित्य दमस्तेषां परायणम्‌,महर्षियोंने अपने-अपने ज्ञानके अनुसार धर्मकी एक नहीं, अनेक विधियाँ बतायी हैं, परंतु उन सबका आधार दम (मन और इन्द्रियोंका संयम) ही है

dharmasya vidhayo naike ye vai proktā maharṣibhiḥ | svaṃ svaṃ vijñānam āśritya damas teṣāṃ parāyaṇam ||

ಭೀಷ್ಮನು ಹೇಳಿದನು—ಮಹರ್ಷಿಗಳು ಧರ್ಮದ ವಿಧಿಗಳನ್ನು ಒಂದಲ್ಲ, ಅನೇಕವಾಗಿ ಉಪದೇಶಿಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಪ್ರತಿಯೊಬ್ಬರೂ ತಮ್ಮ ತಮ್ಮ ಅನುಭವ-ಜ್ಞಾನವನ್ನು ಆಧರಿಸಿ ಹೇಳಿದ್ದಾರೆ; ಆದರೆ ಅವೆಲ್ಲಕ್ಕೂ ಆಶ್ರಯವೂ ಅಂತಿಮ ಆಧಾರವೂ ‘ದಮ’—ಮನಸ್ಸು ಮತ್ತು ಇಂದ್ರಿಯಗಳ ನಿಯಂತ್ರಣ—ಅದೇ.
