त्रिवर्गमूलनिश्चयः — Determining the Roots of Dharma, Artha, and Kāma

पेयापेये कुत: सिद्धिर्हिंसन्ति च परस्परम् | गम्यागम्यं तदा नासीत् स्वं परस्वं च वै समम्
peyāpeye kutaḥ siddhir hiṃsanti ca parasparam | gamyāgamyaṃ tadā nāsīt svaṃ parasvaṃ ca vai samam ||
ಆಗ ಪೇಯ–ಅಪೇಯ ಎಂಬ ಸ್ಥಿರ ನಿಯಮವೇ ಹೇಗೆ ಇರಬಲ್ಲದು? ಜನರು ಪರಸ್ಪರ ಹಿಂಸಿಸಲು ಆರಂಭಿಸಿದರು. ಆ ಕಾಲದಲ್ಲಿ ಗಮ್ಯ–ಅಗಮ್ಯ ಎಂಬ ವಿಚಾರವೂ ಇರಲಿಲ್ಲ; ಸ್ವಂತದೂ ಪರರದೂ ಆದ ಸಂಪತ್ತು ಒಂದೇ ಎಂದು ಭಾವಿಸಲಾಯಿತು.
