Vyāghra–Gomāyu Saṃvāda (व्याघ्रगोमायु संवाद) — Testing Character Beneath Appearances
बभूवामर्षितो राजा वध॑ चास्य व्यरोचयत् । सियारकी यह चपलता सुनकर शेर गुस्सेसे भर गया। उससे यह बात सही नहीं गयी; अतः मृगराजने उसका वध करनेका ही विचार कर लिया
babhūvāmṛṣito rājā vadhaṃ cāsya vyarocayat |
ನರಿಯ ಈ ಚಪಲತೆಯನ್ನು ಕೇಳಿ ರಾಜನು (ಮೃಗರಾಜ) ಕೋಪದಿಂದ ಉರಿದನು; ಆ ಮಾತು ಅವನಿಗೆ ಸಹಿಸಲಾರದಾಯಿತು, ಆದ್ದರಿಂದ ಅವನನ್ನು ವಧಿಸುವುದೇ ಎಂದು ನಿರ್ಧರಿಸಿದನು.
भीष्म उवाच
Unchecked anger and intolerance can quickly turn judgment into a desire for violent punishment; dharma requires restraint and careful discernment before deciding on a person's death.
A ruler (likened to or identified with a lion in the accompanying narration) hears of someone's capricious or improper behavior, becomes indignant, cannot bear it, and consequently resolves that the offender should be killed.
