Duryodhana’s Final Condition, Lamentation, and the Night’s Report
एवमेष क्षयो वृत्त: कुरुपाण्डवसेनयो: । घोरो विशसनो रीौद्रो राजन् दुर्मन्त्रिते तव,राजन! इस प्रकार आपकी कुमन्त्रणाके अनुसार कौरवों तथा पाण्डवोंकी सेनाओंका यह घोर एवं भयंकर विनाशकार्य सम्पन्न हुआ है
evam eṣa kṣayo vṛttaḥ kurupāṇḍava-senayoḥ | ghoro viśasano raudro rājan durmantrite tava ||
ಸಂಜಯನು ಹೇಳಿದನು—ರಾಜನೇ! ಈ ರೀತಿಯಾಗಿ ಕುರು-ಪಾಂಡವ ಸೇನೆಗಳ ಈ ಘೋರ, ಸಂಹಾರಮಯ, ಉಗ್ರ ವಿನಾಶ ಸಂಭವಿಸಿದೆ—ನಿನ್ನ ದುರ್ಮಂತ್ರದ ಫಲವಾಗಿ.
संजय उवाच
The verse underscores moral and political accountability: catastrophic violence in war is not merely fate but can be traced to flawed judgment and unethical counsel. A ruler’s choices and advisors’ influence can precipitate ruin for entire communities.
Sañjaya reports to King Dhṛtarāṣṭra that the dreadful destruction of both the Kuru and Pāṇḍava forces has occurred, and he pointedly attributes this outcome to the king’s own misguided counsel and decisions.
