(Yamasabhā-varṇanam) — Nārada’s Description of Dharmarāja’s Assembly
rājā vainyo vārisenaḥ purujij janamejayaḥ | brahmadattas trigartakṣa rājoparicaras tathā ||
The verse underscores that royal greatness is remembered through a lineage of names, but its ethical weight lies in dharmic rule: power and renown endure in memory only when aligned with righteous conduct.
Nārada is reciting a sequence of renowned kings as part of a broader account in the Sabha Parva, situating current events within a larger historical and moral frame by invoking exemplars of past sovereignty.
