Adhyāya 45 — Duryodhana’s Distress, Śakuni’s Counsel, and the Summons for Dyūta

एष मायाप्रतिच्छन्न: करूषार्थ तपस्विनीम्‌ । जहार भद्रां वैशालीं मातुलस्य नृशंसकृत्‌,“इस क्रूरकर्माने मायासे अपने असली रूपको छिपाकर करूषराजकी प्राप्तिके लिये तपस्या करनेवाली अपने मामा विशालानरेशकी कन्या भद्राका (करूषराजके ही वेषमें उपस्थित हो उसे धोखा देकर) अपहरण कर लिया

eṣa māyāpraticchannaḥ karūṣārtha tapasvinīm | jahāra bhadrāṃ vaiśālīṃ mātulasya nṛśaṃsakṛt ||

ವೈಶಂಪಾಯನನು ಹೇಳಿದನು—ಮಾಯೆಯಿಂದ ತನ್ನ ನಿಜರೂಪವನ್ನು ಮುಚ್ಚಿಕೊಂಡ ನೃಶಂಸಕರ್ಮಿಯಾದ ಈವನು, ಕರೂಷರಾಜನ ಲಾಭಕ್ಕಾಗಿ ತಪಸ್ಸಿನಲ್ಲಿ ನಿರತ ತನ್ನ ಮಾವನ ಮಗಳು ವೈಶಾಲೀ ಭದ್ರೆಯನ್ನು ಅಪಹರಿಸಿದನು।
