हि ही बक। हि मा मी - दोनों हाथोंसे शत्रुका कंधा पकड़कर खींचने और उसे नीचे मुख गिरानेकी चेष्टाका नाम “निग्रह” है तथा शत्रुको उत्तान गिरा देनेके लिये उसके पैरोंको पकड़कर खींचना “प्रग्रह” कहलाता है। चतुर्विशो$ध्याय: भीमके द्वारा जरासंधका वध
vaiśampāyana uvāca | bhīmasenas tataḥ kṛṣṇam uvāca yadunandanam | buddhim āsthāya vipulāṃ jarāsandha-vadhepsayā ||
ವೈಶಂಪಾಯನನು ಹೇಳಿದರು—ಅನಂತರ ಜರಾಸಂಧವಧದ ಅಭಿಲಾಷೆಯಿಂದ, ವಿಶಾಲ ಬುದ್ಧಿಯನ್ನು ಆಶ್ರಯಿಸಿ ಭೀಮಸೇನನು ಯದುನಂದನ ಶ್ರೀಕೃಷ್ಣನನ್ನು ಉದ್ದೇಶಿಸಿ ಮಾತಾಡಿದನು।
वैशम्पायन उवाच
Power alone is not presented as sufficient; Bhīma explicitly ‘takes refuge in great buddhi’ (strategic discernment) before undertaking a grave act. The verse frames decisive action—especially violent action—as something that should be guided by intelligence and a larger righteous purpose rather than impulse.
After prior developments, Bhīma turns to Kṛṣṇa and begins a counsel or proposal aimed at killing Jarāsandha. This sets up the plan that will lead to Jarāsandha’s death and the broader political-moral outcome of removing a dangerous king and freeing those he has confined.
