Chapter 15: Counsel on Initiative vs. Renunciation in the Rajasuya Project (सभापर्व, अध्याय १५)

शममेव परं मन्ये शमात्‌ क्षेम॑ भवेन्मम । आरम्भे पारमेष्ठ्ये तु न प्राप्पमिति मे मति:,मैं तो मन और इन्द्रियोंके संयमको ही सबसे उत्तम मानता हूँ, उसीसे मेरा भला होगा। राजसूय-यज्ञका आरम्भ करनेपर भी उसके फलस्वरूप ब्रह्मलोककी प्राप्ति अपने लिये असम्भव है--मेरी तो यही धारणा है

śamam eva paraṃ manye śamāt kṣemaṃ bhaven mama | ārambhe pārameṣṭhye tu na prāpnam iti me matiḥ ||

ನಾನು ಮನಸ್ಸು ಮತ್ತು ಇಂದ್ರಿಯಗಳ ಸಂಯಮವನ್ನೇ ಪರಮವೆಂದು ಮನಗಾಣುತ್ತೇನೆ; ಸಂಯಮದಿಂದಲೇ ನನ್ನ ಕ್ಷೇಮ ಉಂಟಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ರಾಜಸೂಯ ಯಾಗವನ್ನು ಆರಂಭಿಸಿದರೂ ಅದರ ಫಲವಾಗಿ ಬ್ರಹ್ಮಲೋಕಪ್ರಾಪ್ತಿ ನನಗೆ ಸಾಧ್ಯವಿಲ್ಲ—ಇದೇ ನನ್ನ ಮತ.
