ततः किरीटी भृशमुग्रनि:स्वनं महाशरं सर्पविषानलोपमम् । अयस्मयं रौद्रमहास्त्रसम्भृतं महाहवे क्षेप्तुमना महामति:,तब परम बुद्धिमान् किरीटधारी अर्जुनने उस महासमरमें कर्णपर भयानक शब्द करनेवाले, सर्पवविष और अग्निके समान तेजस्वी लोहनिर्मित तथा महारौद्रास्त्रसे अभिमन्त्रित विशाल बाण छोड़नेका विचार किया

ಸಂಜಯನು ಹೇಳಿದನು—ಆಗ ಮಹಾಬುದ್ಧಿವಂತನಾದ ಕಿರೀಟಧಾರಿ ಅರ್ಜುನನು ಆ ಮಹಾಯುದ್ಧದಲ್ಲಿ ಕರ್ಣನ ಮೇಲೆ ಎಸೆಯಲು ಒಂದು ಮಹಾಶರವನ್ನು ಎಸೆಯಲು ನಿರ್ಧರಿಸಿದನು. ಅದು ಅತ್ಯಂತ ಉಗ್ರನಾದವನ್ನು ಹೊರಡಿಸುತ್ತಿತ್ತು; ಸರ್ಪವಿಷವೂ ಅಗ್ನಿಯೂ ಹೋಲುವ ತೇಜಸ್ಸಿನಿಂದ ಜ್ವಲಿಸುತ್ತಿತ್ತು; ಕಬ್ಬಿಣದಿಂದ ನಿರ್ಮಿತವಾಗಿದ್ದು, ಭಯಂಕರ ಮಹಾರೌದ್ರಾಸ್ತ್ರದ ಮಂತ್ರಶಕ್ತಿಯಿಂದ ಸಂಭೃತವಾಗಿತ್ತು.
