Shloka 563

अध्याय ९ — कर्णस्य प्रहारः, योधयुग्मनियोजनम्, शैनेय-कैकेययोर्युद्धविन्यासः

इति यस्य महाघोरं व्रतमासीन्महात्मन: । उसके नष्ट होनेमें और कोई कारण मुझे नहीं दिखायी देता है, जिस महामना वीरका यह भयंकर व्रत था कि “मैं जबतक अर्जुनको मार नहीं लूँगा, तबतक दूसरोंसे अपने पैर नहीं धुलाऊँगा'

iti yasya mahāghoraṁ vratam āsīn mahātmanaḥ |

ವೈಶಂಪಾಯನನು ಹೇಳಿದನು—ಆ ಮಹಾತ್ಮ ವೀರನ ವ್ರತವು ಅತ್ಯಂತ ಘೋರವಾಗಿತ್ತು. ಅವನ ನಾಶಕ್ಕೆ ಇದನ್ನು ಹೊರತು ಬೇರೆ ಕಾರಣ ನನಗೆ ಕಾಣುವುದಿಲ್ಲ—ಅವನು ಈ ದಾರುಣ ಸಂಕಲ್ಪಕ್ಕೆ ಬದ್ಧನಾಗಿದ್ದನು: “ನಾನು ಅರ್ಜುನನನ್ನು ಸಂಹರಿಸುವವರೆಗೆ, ಬೇರೆ ಯಾರಿಂದಲೂ ನನ್ನ ಪಾದಗಳನ್ನು ತೊಳೆಯಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳುವುದಿಲ್ಲ.”
