Educational Q&A

Even in a dharma-framed war, warriors must make strategic choices—sometimes disengaging from a powerful foe—to pursue immediate objectives. The verse highlights how battlefield duty involves not only valor but also discernment and tactical restraint.

Sañjaya narrates a moment in the battle where Bhīma, described as mighty-armed, is ‘left aside’—i.e., a combatant turns away from engaging him or moves past him—setting up the continuation of the action in the next part of the verse or subsequent verses.
