वैशम्पायन उवाच श्रुत्वा कर्णस्य निधनमश्रद्धेयमिवाद्भधुतम् । भूतसम्मोहनं भीम॑ मेरो: संसर्पणं यथा
vaiśampāyana uvāca | śrutvā karṇasya nidhanam aśraddheyam ivādbhutam | bhūta-sammohanaṁ bhīmaṁ meroḥ saṁsarpaṇaṁ yathā ||
ವೈಶಂಪಾಯನನು ಹೇಳಿದರು—ರಾಜನೇ! ಕರ್ಣನ ನಿಧನವನ್ನು ಕೇಳಿದಾಗ ಅದು ಅಚ್ಚರಿಯೂ ನಂಬಲಾರದಂತೆಯೂ ತೋಚಿತು. ಆ ಭೀಕರ ಘಟನೆ, ಮೇರೂ ಪರ್ವತವು ತನ್ನ ಸ್ಥಾನವನ್ನು ಬಿಟ್ಟು ಬೇರೆಡೆಗೆ ಸರಿದಂತೆ, ಸಮಸ್ತ ಪ್ರಾಣಿಗಳನ್ನು ಮೋಹದಲ್ಲಿ ಮುಳುಗಿಸಿತು.
