कालान्तकवपु: शूर: सूतपुत्रो5भ्यराजत । इस प्रकार शत्रुओंको तपानेवाला कर्ण मध्याह्न-कालके सूर्यकी भाँति तप रहा था। उस समय उसकी ओर देखना कठिन हो गया था। शूरवीर सूतपुत्रका शरीर काल और अन्तकके समान सुशोभित हो रहा था

Transliteration

kālāntakavapuḥ śūraḥ sūtaputro 'bhyarājata |

Translation

ಸಂಜಯನು ಹೇಳಿದನು— ಶೂರನಾದ ಸೂತಪುತ್ರ ಕರ್ಣನು ಕಾಲ-ಅಂತಕಸ್ವರೂಪದಂತೆ ಪ್ರಕಾಶಿಸಿದನು. ಶತ್ರುಗಳನ್ನು ದಹಿಸುತ್ತ ಮಧ್ಯಾಹ್ನಸೂರ್ಯನಂತೆ ಜ್ವಲಿಸಿದನು; ಆ ವೇಳೆಗೆ ಅವನತ್ತ ನೋಡುವುದೇ ಕಷ್ಟವಾಯಿತು. ಆ ಕ್ಷಣದಲ್ಲಿ ಅವನ ದೇಹವೇ ಕಾಲ ಮತ್ತು ಅಂತಕನ ಭೀಮ ಮಹಿಮೆಯಿಂದ ಅಲಂಕರಿಸಲ್ಪಟ್ಟಂತೆ ಕಾಣಿಸಿತು।
