Educational Q&A

The passage contrasts heroic excellence with unethical warfare: even a supremely capable warrior can be destroyed when opponents abandon fair combat. Sañjaya’s grief underscores that victory gained through treachery (dharma-violating means) leaves a moral stain and lasting remorse.

Sañjaya describes Abhimanyu’s devastating assault on the enemy ranks—scattering formations and wounding leading warriors—then laments that despite this prowess Abhimanyu was killed by a coordinated, ruthless group led by Duryodhana’s side, with Karṇa’s hostile intent implicated in the plot.
