Aftermath of Karṇa’s Fall: Śalya’s Address to Duryodhana
sañjaya uvāca | draṣṭā lokaḥ patitān apy agādhe pāpair juṣṭe narake pāṇḍaveya |
The verse underscores the ethical idea that sinful conduct (pāpa) leads to a visible and profound downfall—so severe it is likened to a bottomless hell—serving as a warning that moral collapse becomes evident to the wider world (loka).
Sanjaya, narrating events to Dhṛtarāṣṭra, addresses a Pāṇḍava (pāṇḍaveya) and describes a condition of extreme ruin: people will see the fallen plunged into an unfathomable, sin-filled hellish suffering, reflecting the catastrophic stakes of the war and its moral consequences.
