विद्याविशेषमिच्छामि ज्ञातुमाचार्य तत्त्वतः । अर्जुनस्यात्मनश्वैव याथातथ्यं॑ प्रचक्ष्य मे,“आचार्य! मैं अर्जुकी और अपनी विद्याविषयक विशेषताको ठीक-ठीक जानना चाहता हूँ। आप मुझे यथार्थ बात बताइये'
vidyā-viśeṣam icchāmi jñātum ācārya tattvataḥ | arjunasya ātmanaś caiva yāthātathyaṁ pracakṣya me ||
ಆಚಾರ್ಯರೇ! ಅರ್ಜುನನ ವಿದ್ಯಾ-ವಿಶೇಷತೆಯನ್ನೂ ನನ್ನದ್ದನ್ನೂ ತತ್ತ್ವತಃ ತಿಳಿಯಲು ಇಚ್ಛಿಸುತ್ತೇನೆ. ಯಥಾರ್ಥವಾಗಿ ಸ್ಪಷ್ಟವಾಗಿ ನನಗೆ ಹೇಳಿರಿ.
संजय उवाच
The verse foregrounds a dharmic attitude toward knowledge: one should seek an accurate, truth-based assessment of ability (one’s own and another’s) from a qualified teacher, without exaggeration or concealment.
In the midst of the Drona Parva’s war setting, the speaker requests a preceptor to state, truthfully and precisely, the comparative distinction in learning/skill between Arjuna and himself—seeking a clear evaluation relevant to the unfolding conflict.
