कर्ण प्राच्छादयद् बाणै: स्वर्भानुरिव भास्करम् । चक्रको गिराया हुआ देख क्रोधमें भरे हुए घटोत्कचने अपने बाणोंद्वारा कर्णको उसी प्रकार आच्छादित कर दिया, जैसे राहु सूर्यको ढक देता है || ४८ $ ।। सूतपुत्रस्त्वसम्भ्रान्तो रुद्रोपेन्द्रेन्द्रविक्रम:

karṇaṃ prācchādayad bāṇaiḥ svarbhānur iva bhāskaram |
sūtaputras tv asambhrānto rudropendra-indra-vikramaḥ |
ಸಂಜಯನು ಹೇಳಿದರು—ಘಟೋತ್ಕಚನು ಕರ್ಣನನ್ನು ಬಾಣಗಳ ಘನ ಮಳೆಯಂತೆ ಸುರಿಸಿ, ಸ್ವರ್ಭಾನು (ರಾಹು) ಸೂರ್ಯನನ್ನು ಮುಚ್ಚುವಂತೆ ಆವರಿಸಿದನು. ಆದರೆ ಸೂತಪುತ್ರ ಕರ್ಣನು ಅಚಲ; ರಣಕ್ರೋಧದ ಮಧ್ಯೆ ರುದ್ರ, ಉಪೇಂದ್ರ (ವಿಷ್ಣು), ಇಂದ್ರರ ಸಮಾನ ಪರಾಕ್ರಮ ತೋರಿ ಸ್ಥಿರ ಧೈರ್ಯದಿಂದ ಆ ದಾಳಿಯನ್ನು ಎದುರಿಸಿದನು.
