Pacification of the Nārāyaṇāstra and Drauni’s Renewed Assault
astrāṇāṁ kavacānāṁ ca maṇīnāṁ ca mahātmanām

The line underscores the epic’s view of kṣatriya life: power is expressed through arms and protection, yet true worth is tied to the ‘mahātman’—nobility of character. Material splendour (weapons, armour, gems) is meaningful only as it serves duty and honour in a righteous cause.
Sañjaya, narrating the battlefield events to Dhṛtarāṣṭra, briefly lists martial and royal accoutrements—weapons, armours, and gems—associated with eminent warriors, setting the scene of high-stakes combat and the presence of renowned heroes.
