As a chapter-ending colophon, the verse does not teach a doctrine directly; it frames the ethical arc of the war by marking the continued destruction of Dhṛtarāṣṭra’s lineage as a consequence of adharma-driven choices, emphasizing accountability and the inexorable results of conflict.
Sañjaya formally closes the chapter, stating that the eighty-eighth chapter—about the slaying of Dhṛtarāṣṭra’s sons beginning with Yudhnābha—has ended within the Bhīṣma Parva’s Bhīṣma-vadha section.
