Adhyāya 70: Sātyaki’s Arrow-Display and the Bhūriśravas Engagement; Twilight Withdrawal

तात! मधुका वध करनेके कारण ही देवता, दानव, मनुष्य तथा ऋषिगण श्रीजनार्दनको मधुसूदन कहते हैं ।।

bhīṣma uvāca | tāta madhukā-vadha-kāraṇād eva devatā dānava manuṣyā ṛṣayaś ca śrījanārdanaṃ madhusūdanaṃ vadanti || varāhaś caiva siṃhaś ca trivikrama-gatiḥ prabhuḥ | eṣa mātā pitā caiva sarveṣāṃ prāṇināṃ hariḥ ||

ಭೀಷ್ಮನು ಹೇಳಿದರು—ತಾತ! ಮಧುವನ್ನು ಸಂಹರಿಸಿದ ಕಾರಣದಿಂದಲೇ ದೇವರುಗಳು, ದಾನವರು, ಮನುಷ್ಯರು ಮತ್ತು ಋಷಿಗಳು ಎಲ್ಲರೂ ಶ್ರೀಜನಾರ್ದನನನ್ನು ‘ಮಧುಸೂದನ’ ಎಂದು ಕರೆಯುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಅವನೇ ಪ್ರಭು—ವರಾಹ, ನರಸಿಂಹ ಮತ್ತು ತ್ರಿವಿಕ್ರಮ (ಮೂರು ಹೆಜ್ಜೆ ಹಾಕಿದವನು) ರೂಪಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಯುಗಯುಗಾಂತರಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಅವತರಿಸಿದವನು. ಆ ಹರಿಯೇ ಸಮಸ್ತ ಪ್ರಾಣಿಗಳ ತಾಯಿ ಮತ್ತು ತಂದೆ.
