Five Elements, Sensory Qualities, and a Cosmographic Island
अस्त्युत्तरेण कैलासं मैनाकं पर्वत प्रति । हिरण्यशूज्रः सुमहान् दिव्यो मणिमयो गिरि:,कैलाससे उत्तर मैनाक है और उससे भी उत्तर दिव्य तथा महान् मणिमय पर्वत हिरण्यशुंग है
asty uttarena kailāsaṁ mainākaṁ parvataṁ prati | hiraṇyaśṛṅgaḥ sumahān divyo maṇimayo giriḥ ||
ಕೈಲಾಸದ ಉತ್ತರಕ್ಕೆ ಮೈನಾಕ ಪರ್ವತವಿದೆ; ಅದರಿಗೂ ಉತ್ತರಕ್ಕೆ ದಿವ್ಯವಾದ, ಅತಿಮಹಾನ್, ಮಣಿಮಯ ಗಿರಿಯೊಂದು ಇದೆ—ಅದನ್ನು ‘ಹಿರಣ್ಯಶೃಂಗ’ ಎನ್ನುತ್ತಾರೆ.
संजय उवाच
The verse underscores that human events—especially war—are set within a larger sacred and cosmic landscape. Remembering this wider order encourages humility and ethical reflection amid conflict.
Sañjaya is describing northern sacred mountains, placing Kailāsa, then Maināka to its north, and beyond that the divine jewel-like peak Hiraṇyaśṛṅga, as part of a broader geographic/cosmic description.
