नवमेघप्रतीकाशाश्षाक्षिप्य तुरगान् गजा: । पादैरेव विमृद्नन्ति मत्ता: कनकभूषणा:,नूतन मेघोंके समान शोभा पानेवाले स्वर्णभूषित मतवाले हाथी बहुत-से घोड़ोंको सूँड्ोंस झटककर पैरोंसे ही रौंद डालते थे

navameghapratīkāśāḥ kṣipya turagān gajāḥ |
pādair eva vimṛdnanti mattāḥ kanakabhūṣaṇāḥ ||
ಸಂಜಯನು ಹೇಳಿದನು—ಹೊಸ ಮಳೆಮೋಡಗಳಂತೆ ಕಾಣುವ, ಚಿನ್ನದ ಆಭರಣಗಳಿಂದ ಅಲಂಕರಿತ ಮದಗಜಗಳು ಕುದುರೆಗಳನ್ನು ಎತ್ತಿ ಎಸೆದು, ಕಾಲಿನಿಂದಲೇ ತುಳಿದು ನುಚ್ಚುಚೂರು ಮಾಡುತ್ತಿದ್ದವು. ಆ ದೃಶ್ಯ ಯುದ್ಧದ ಅಂಧ, ನಿರ್ಲಿಪ್ತ ಪ್ರಚಂಡತೆಯನ್ನು ತೋರಿಸಿತು—ಜೀವಿಗಳು ವಿನಾಶದ ಉಪಕರಣಗಳಾಗುವಂತೆ.
