Karma-Yoga, Jñāna-Yajña, and Avatāra Instruction

Educational Q&A

The self (dehin) remains continuous while the body undergoes stages—childhood, youth, old age—and similarly the self takes on another body. Wisdom is shown as steadiness: understanding this continuity prevents delusion, excessive grief, or fear about bodily change and death.

Sañjaya is reporting the instruction being given on the battlefield context of the Mahābhārata’s Bhīṣma Parva. The teaching addresses the mental crisis surrounding killing and death in war by reframing death as a transition of embodiment, encouraging composure and discernment.
