Educational Q&A

This line is a colophon rather than a doctrinal verse: its ‘teaching’ is structural—showing how the Mahābhārata organizes and authenticates transmission by clearly marking the end of a chapter and locating it within parva and sub-parva. Ethically, it signals a transition toward re-establishing dharma and social order in the post-war world, with Kṛṣṇa’s return to Dvārakā as part of that restoration.

The narrator Vaiśampāyana closes the chapter by stating that this is the fifty-ninth adhyāya in the Aśvamedhika Parva’s Anugītā section, themed around Kṛṣṇa’s entry into Dvārakā. It functions as an end-marker for the episode and a guidepost for the listener/reader.
