Adhyātma-Upadeśa
एतत् पदमनुद्धिग्नं वरिष्ठ धर्मलक्षणम् । उस विषयको यहाँ पूर्णतया सुनकर अच्छी प्रकार धारण करो। सब प्राणियोंकी अहिंसा ही सर्वोत्तम कर्तव्य है--ऐसा माना गया है। यह साधन उद्देगरहित
etad padam anuddhignaṁ variṣṭha-dharma-lakṣaṇam | yathārṇavaṁ mahāghoram aplavaḥ sampragāhate | bāhubhyām eva sammohād vardha vāñchaty asaṁśayam ||
ವಾಯು ಹೇಳಿದರು—ಇದು ಉದ್ವಿಗ್ನತೆಯಿಲ್ಲದ ಪಥ, ಧರ್ಮದ ಶ್ರೇಷ್ಠ ಲಕ್ಷಣ. ಈ ವಿಷಯವನ್ನು ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣವಾಗಿ ಕೇಳಿ ಹೃದಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಧರಿಸಿರಿ. ಸರ್ವಪ್ರಾಣಿಗಳ प्रति ಅಹಿಂಸೆಯೇ ಪರಮಧರ್ಮವೆಂದು ನಿಶ್ಚಯಿಸಲಾಗಿದೆ. ಹೇಗೆಂದರೆ—ಮೋಹದಿಂದ ನೌಕೆಯಿಲ್ಲದೆ ಭಯಂಕರ ಮಹಾಸಮುದ್ರಕ್ಕೆ ಇಳಿದು, ಕೇವಲ ತನ್ನ ಭುಜಬಲದಿಂದ ಈಜಿಕೊಂಡು ದಾಟುವೆನೆಂದು ಆಶಿಸುವವನು ನಿಸ್ಸಂದೇಹವಾಗಿ ವಿನಾಶವನ್ನೇ ಆಹ್ವಾನಿಸುತ್ತಾನೆ; ಹಾಗೆಯೇ ಸತ್ಯಜ್ಞಾನರೂಪ ನೌಕೆಯ ಆಶ್ರಯವಿಲ್ಲದೆ ಯಾರೂ ಭವಸಾಗರವನ್ನು ದಾಟಲಾರರು.
