A ruler’s dharma is to protect the virtuous within the kingdom; such protection yields visible well-being in this life and favorable results after death, showing that political power is ethically grounded in safeguarding moral order.
Vāyudeva is speaking, stating a general principle of rājadharma: kings who ensure the safety of sādhus in their domain gain joy and prosperity here and happiness in the hereafter.
