Sāttvika-vṛtta-kathana (Brahmā on the Conduct of Sattva) — Chapter 38
मुधा दानं मुधा यज्ञो मुधा5धीतं मुधा व्रतम् । मुधा प्रतिग्रहश्वैव मुधा धर्मो मुधा तप:
vāyudeva uvāca | mudhā dānaṁ mudhā yajño mudhādhītaṁ mudhā vratam | mudhā pratigrahaś caiva mudhā dharmo mudhā tapaḥ ||
ವಾಯುದೇವನು ಹೇಳಿದನು—ಕಾಮ್ಯಭಾವದಿಂದ ಮಾಡಿದ ದಾನ ವ್ಯರ್ಥ, ಯಜ್ಞ ವ್ಯರ್ಥ, ಅಧ್ಯಯನ ವ್ಯರ್ಥ, ವ್ರತವೂ ವ್ಯರ್ಥ; ಪ್ರತಿಗ್ರಹವೂ ವ್ಯರ್ಥ; ಹಾಗೆಯೇ ಆಸೆಯಿಂದ ಆಚರಿಸಿದ ‘ಧರ್ಮ’ ಮತ್ತು ತಪಸ್ಸೂ ವ್ಯರ್ಥ. ಇದನ್ನು ತಿಳಿದು, ಮೇಲ್ಕಂಡ ಸದಾಚಾರವನ್ನು ಪಾಲಿಸುತ್ತಾ ಈ ಲೋಕದಲ್ಲಿ ಸತ್ಯವನ್ನು ಶರಣಾಗೊಂಡು, ವೇದೋತ್ಪತ್ತಿಸ್ಥಾನವಾದ ಪರಬ್ರಹ್ಮ ಪರಮಾತ್ಮನಲ್ಲಿ ಅಚಲ ನಿಷ್ಠೆ ಇಡುವವರೇ ಧೀರರೂ ಸಾಧುದರ್ಶಿಗಳೂ ಆದ ಬ್ರಾಹ್ಮಣರೆಂದು ಗಣಿಸಲ್ಪಡುತ್ತಾರೆ.
