Āśvamedhika-parva Adhyāya 1 — Yudhiṣṭhira’s Lament by the Gaṅgā and Dhṛtarāṣṭra’s Counsel
aśrutvā hitakāmasya vidurasya mahātmanaḥ | vākyāni sumahārthāni paritapyāmi durmatiḥ ||
One should heed the counsel of a genuine well-wisher, especially a wise and dharmic advisor; ignoring such guidance leads to later remorse and inner torment.
The speaker reflects on past failure: he did not listen to Vidura’s weighty, welfare-seeking advice, and now confesses his own folly and suffering from regret.
