Suvarṇa-dāna: Kārttikeya’s Origin and the Defeat of Tāraka
surabhī uvāca—bhagavan, niṣpāpa lokapitāmaha! mama vara-grahaṇasya kācid āvaśyakatā nāsti. mama tu sarvottamo vara eṣa eva yat adya tvaṁ mayi prasanno 'si, anagha.
The verse elevates inner grace over external rewards: the highest ‘boon’ is not a material grant but the approval and goodwill of a righteous/divine authority, gained through purity and humility.
Surabhī addresses Lokapitāmaha (Brahmā). When offered a boon, she declines any specific request and declares that his present satisfaction with her is itself the supreme boon.
