Brāhmaṇa-vandana: Criteria for Veneration, Disciplined Speech, and Protective Kingship (अनुशासनपर्व, अध्याय ८)
कर्मणा मनसा वापि वाचा वापि परंतप । यन्मे कृतं ब्राह्मुणेभ्यस्तेनाद्य न तपाम्यहम्
karmaṇā manasā vāpi vācā vāpi parantapa | yan me kṛtaṃ brāhmaṇebhyas tenādya na tapāmy aham ||
ಭೀಷ್ಮನು ಹೇಳಿದರು—ಹೇ ಶತ್ರುಸಂತಾಪಕ! ಕರ್ಮದಿಂದಲೋ, ಮನಸ್ಸಿನಿಂದಲೋ, ವಾಣಿಯಿಂದಲೋ ನಾನು ಬ್ರಾಹ್ಮಣರಿಗೆ ಮಾಡಿದ ಯಾವ ಸೇವೆಯಾದರೂ, ಆ ಪುಣ್ಯದ ಬಲದಿಂದಲೇ ಇಂದು ಈ ಸ್ಥಿತಿಯಲ್ಲಿದ್ದರೂ ನಾನು ವ್ಯಥೆಯಿಂದ ದಹಿಸುವುದಿಲ್ಲ.
