ब्राह्माण्यं प्रार्थयानस्त्वमप्राप्यमकृतात्मभि: । विनशिष्यसि दुर्बुद्धे तदुपारम माचिरम्‌

Transliteration

bhīṣma uvāca | brāhmaṇyaṁ prārthayānas tvam aprāpyam akṛtātmabhiḥ | vinaśiṣyasi durbuddhe tad upārama mā ciram ||

Translation

ಭೀಷ್ಮನು ಹೇಳಿದನು—“ನೀನು ಬ್ರಾಹ್ಮಣತ್ವವನ್ನು ಬೇಡುತ್ತಿದ್ದೀಯೆ; ಆದರೆ ಅಂತರಾತ್ಮ ಅಸಂಸ್ಕೃತವೂ ಅಶುದ್ಧವೂ ಇರುವವರಿಗೆ ಅದು ಅಪ್ರಾಪ್ಯ. ಓ ದುರ್ಬುದ್ಧಿ! ಬ್ರಾಹ್ಮಣತ್ವವನ್ನು ಬೇಡುತ್ತಾ ಬೇಡುತ್ತಾ ನೀನು ನಾಶವಾಗುವೆ, ಆದರೂ ಅದು ದೊರಕದು; ಆದ್ದರಿಂದ ಈ ದುರುಗ್ರಹವನ್ನು ತಕ್ಷಣ ಬಿಡು.”
