स वरैश्छन्दितस्तेन नूपो वचनमत्रवीत् । सहस्रबाहुर्भूयां वै चमूमध्ये गृहेडन्यथा
sa varaiś chanditas tena nūpo vacanam abravīt | sahasrabāhur bhūyāṃ vai camūmadhye gṛhe ’nyathā ||
ಭೀಷ್ಮನು ಹೇಳಿದರು—ಆ ಋಷಿಯು ವರಗಳನ್ನು ಬೇಡಿಕೊಳ್ಳಲು ಪ್ರೇರೇಪಿಸಿದಾಗ ರಾಜನು ಹೇಳಿದನು—“ಯುದ್ಧದಲ್ಲಿ, ಸೇನೆಯ ಮಧ್ಯದಲ್ಲಿ, ನಾನು ಸಹಸ್ರಬಾಹುವಾಗಿರಲಿ; ಆದರೆ ಮನೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಬೇರೆ ರೀತಿಯಾಗಿ, ಅಂದರೆ ಎರಡು ಭುಜಗಳವನೇ ಇರಲಿ. ರಣಭೂಮಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಎಲ್ಲ ಸೈನಿಕರೂ ನನ್ನ ಸಾವಿರ ಭುಜಗಳನ್ನು ಕಾಣಲಿ.”
