Bhīṣma’s Yogic Departure, Royal Cremation, and Gaṅgā’s Lament (भीष्मस्य योगयुक्त्या देहत्यागः, पितृमेधः, गङ्गाविलापः)
द्वितीयं त्वद्भुतमिदं त्वत्तेज: कृतमद्य वै दृष्टवा च विस्मिता: कृष्ण सा च न: स्मृतिरागता
dvitīyaṃ tv adbhutam idaṃ tvat-tejaḥ-kṛtam adya vai | dṛṣṭvā ca vismitāḥ kṛṣṇa sā ca naḥ smṛtir āgatā ||
ನಾರದನು ಹೇಳಿದನು—ಓ ಕೃಷ್ಣಾ! ಇಂದು ನಿನ್ನ ತೇಜಸ್ಸಿನ ಪ್ರಭಾವದಿಂದ ಎರಡನೆಯ ಅದ್ಭುತ ಘಟನೆ ಸಂಭವಿಸಿದೆ. ಅದನ್ನು ನೋಡಿ ನಾವು ವಿಸ್ಮಿತರಾಗಿದ್ದೇವೆ; ಶಂಕರ (ಶಿವ) ಸಂಬಂಧಿತ ಆ ಪೂರ್ವವೃತ್ತಾಂತವೂ ಮತ್ತೆ ನಮ್ಮ ಸ್ಮೃತಿಗೆ ಬಂದಿದೆ.
नारद उवाच
The verse highlights tejas (divine radiance/power) as an ethical-spiritual force that inspires awe and remembrance of sacred precedents; wonder becomes a doorway to recollecting dharmic and divine narratives rather than mere spectacle.
Nārada addresses Kṛṣṇa, stating that a second extraordinary occurrence has just taken place due to Kṛṣṇa’s radiance; witnessing it astonishes the observers and triggers recollection of an earlier incident associated with Śaṅkara (Śiva).
