Lord Vishnu (speaking to Garuda)
Concept: Protection of bodily order and responsible regulation of conception through prescribed remedies.
Vedantic Theme: Sharira as an instrument (sadhana) to be maintained for dharma; prakriti managed by right means (yukti).
Application: Use the stated preparation under appropriate guidance; emphasize careful timing and suitability, especially regarding women’s health.
Primary Rasa: shanta
Related Themes: Garuda Purana 1.179.1-4 (adjacent medical/household remedies section)
The verse presents it as a traditional medicinal preparation, indicating that palāśa seeds ground with honey and a diuretic decoction are taken to avert or clear an undesirable/abnormal conception termed muṣpa-garbha.
It reads as Vishnu’s prescriptive instruction to Garuda, typical of sections where practical dharmic and health-related observances are taught alongside broader spiritual topics.
It reflects the text’s emphasis on regulated bodily care and traditional herbal knowledge; in modern practice, such formulations should be approached as historical/ayurvedic references and used only with qualified medical guidance.
