Lord Vishnu (speaking to Garuda/Vinata-putra)
Concept: What is hoarded decays; what is rightly given becomes lasting merit—therefore make each day fruitful with charity, study, and duty.
Vedantic Theme: Vairagya toward perishable artha; transformation of action into purifying merit when aligned with dharma.
Application: Set a daily triad: give something (time/food/wealth), study a sacred text, and perform one righteous duty conscientiously.
Primary Rasa: shanta
Secondary Rasa: karuna
Related Themes: Garuda Purana: dana and shraddha sections praising dana as enduring wealth (punya)
This verse teaches that worldly acquisitions decay, while properly given charity becomes an enduring store of merit (puṇya), making dāna a central practice of dharma.
By emphasizing merit gained through charity, sacred study, and righteous action, it points to the moral preparation that supports the soul’s welfare beyond death, rather than reliance on perishable wealth.
Treat each day as an opportunity: give according to capacity, study or recite uplifting scripture, and perform duties ethically—so time is not wasted and values outlast possessions.
