Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Umāpati
Significance: Frames Skanda as the mediator of Śiva-bhakti—‘śivadāyin’—thus emphasizing grace (anugraha) that loosens pāśa (bondage) by turning the paśu toward Pati.
Mantra: śivaśiṣyāya putrāya śivasya śivadāyine | śivapriyāya śivayorānandanidhaye nama
Type: stotra
Shakti Form: Pārvatī
Role: liberating
Offering: dhupa
It praises an exalted devotee/son who embodies Śiva-bhakti and becomes a channel through which devotion to Śiva and auspicious grace arise—pointing, in Shaiva Siddhanta terms, to Pati (Śiva) as the source of ānanda and liberation.
The verse is a namaskāra that supports Saguna upāsanā—devotional remembrance of Śiva (often through the Liṅga) and Śiva-Śakti as the divine pair—strengthening personal devotion that leads toward realization of Śiva’s supreme nature.
Use it as a brief namaskāra before japa of the Pañcākṣarī (“Om Namaḥ Śivāya”), Liṅga-abhisheka, or daily Śiva-Śakti dhyāna, cultivating humility, devotion, and remembrance of Śiva as the giver of auspicious grace.
