FAQs

It evokes the creation-time imagery of a single, all-encompassing cosmic ocean (ekārṇava) with the Lord resting upon Śeṣa (Ananta), a classic Purāṇic symbol of the unmanifest state before ordered creation.

Here māyā indicates the Lord’s wondrous, sovereign power to manifest forms and cosmic states—something Mārkaṇḍeya seeks to understand “tattvataḥ,” i.e., as a true metaphysical principle rather than mere illusion.

The verse models humility and sincere inquiry: approaching the divine as “anagha” (sinless/pure) and asking to know the truth directly encourages reverent questioning as a path to insight and devotion.
