वैशमग्पायन उवाच
The verse highlights disciplined martial excellence and leadership: when confronting hostility, one should act decisively and effectively—like an elephant-chief breaking enemy ranks—implying that strength is to be applied with purpose in a just struggle rather than with aimless violence.
In Vaiśaṃpāyana’s narration, a warrior is being urged to unleash well-crafted arrows and smash the enemy’s battle formations; the comparison to an elephant herd-leader conveys overwhelming momentum and tactical dominance on the battlefield.
