Vṛtra’s Cosmic Threat, Viṣṇu’s Upāya, and the Conditional Vulnerability
Udyoga-parva 10
अमृतं चाह्तं विष्णो दैत्याश्व निहता रणे । बलिं बद्ध्वा महादैत्यं शक्रो देवाधिप: कृत:,“विष्णो! आपने ही (मोहिनी अवतार धारण करके) दैत्योंके हाथसे अमृत छीना एवं युद्धमें उन सबका संहार किया तथा महादैत्य बलिको बाँधकर इन्द्रको देवताओंका राजा बनाया
amṛtaṃ cāhṛtaṃ viṣṇo daityāś ca nihitā raṇe | baliṃ baddhvā mahādaityaṃ śakro devādhipaḥ kṛtaḥ ||
សាល្យៈបានពោលថា៖ «ឱ វិស្ណុ! ព្រះអង្គបានដណ្ដើមយកអម្រឹតពីពួកដៃត្យៈ ហើយក្នុងសង្គ្រាមបានបំផ្លាញពួកគេទាំងអស់។ ដោយចងបាលិ ដៃត្យៈដ៏មហិមា ព្រះអង្គបានស្ថាបនា សក្រ (ឥន្ទ្រ) ឲ្យជាព្រះអធិបតីនៃទេវតាទាំងឡាយ»។
शल्य उवाच
Legitimate sovereignty and cosmic stability are upheld when destructive, unjust power is restrained. Viṣṇu’s acts—recovering amṛta, defeating the Daityas, and binding Bali—are presented as dharma-protecting interventions that re-establish rightful order under Indra.
Śalya addresses Viṣṇu, recounting well-known mythic episodes: Viṣṇu takes back the amṛta from the Daityas (alluding to the Mohinī episode), defeats them in battle, binds the Daitya king Bali, and thereby installs Indra (Śakra) as the ruler of the gods.
