Śuka’s Guṇa-Transcendence and Vyāsa’s Consolation (शुकगति-वर्णनम्)
tathaiva vyabhicāreṇa na vartante parasparam
The verse upholds mutual fidelity as a dharmic norm: ethical relationships are sustained when neither party violates trust through vyabhicāra (infidelity or moral deviation).
In Bhīṣma’s instruction in the Śānti Parva, he is describing standards of proper conduct; here he emphasizes that people (especially spouses/partners, by context) should not act toward each other with betrayal, but maintain mutual loyalty.
