On Gratitude and Friendship Ethics

Unrestrained exhilaration for violent action (harṣa-utsāha directed toward bhayānaka-karma) clouds discernment. The verse cautions that when beings mistake divine, moral force for a mere battlefield rival, their aggressive zeal becomes self-destructive and contrary to dharma.
After hearing some provoking development, the Dānavas become excited and charge. They see Rudra manifesting a terrifying form aligned with his intent to carry out dreadful deeds, and, emboldened, they collectively rush to attack him.
