Dama-pradhāna-dharma (Self-restraint as the Root of Dharma) — Śānti-parva 154
भीष्मजी कहते हैं--राजन्! वे गीध और गीदड़ दोनों ही भूखे थे और अपने उद्देश्यकी सिद्धिके लिये मृतकके बन्धु-बान्धवोंसे बातें करते थे। गीध कहता था कि सूर्य अस्त हो गये और सियार कहता था नहीं ।।
svakāryabaddhakakṣau tau rājan gṛdhro 'tha jambukaḥ | kṣutpipāsāpariśrāntau śāstram ālambya jalpataḥ ||
ភីෂ្មៈមានព្រះបន្ទូលថា៖ «ឱ ព្រះមហាក្សត្រ! ទាំងសត្វត្មាត និងសត្វចចក សុទ្ធតែឃ្លាន ហើយបានខិតខំប្រឹងប្រែងដើម្បីសម្រេចប្រយោជន៍របស់ខ្លួន ដោយចូលទៅនិយាយជាមួយសាច់ញាតិរបស់អ្នកស្លាប់។ ត្មាតនិយាយថា ព្រះអាទិត្យលិចហើយ; ចចកវិញនិយាយថា មិនទាន់ទេ។ ដោយអស់កម្លាំងពីឃ្លាន និងស្រេក ពួកវាប្រកែកគ្នា ដោយយក “ហេតុផលតាមគម្ពីរ” មកជាអាស្រ័យ ដើម្បីគាំទ្រពាក្យរបស់ខ្លួន»។
