Educational Q&A

The verse underscores communal dharma: secretly producing intoxicants is treated as a serious offense that endangers social discipline, and thus is met with severe, deterrent punishment.

A strict public order is being announced: anyone who clandestinely prepares an intoxicating drink will be executed by impalement while alive, along with his relatives—an extreme measure meant to prevent hidden wrongdoing.
