Atman (Self)

Educational Q&A

The Self (ātman) is exceedingly subtle: true seeing, teaching, and even receptive hearing of it are rare, and mere listening does not guarantee realization.

In the Bhishma Parva discourse on the Self’s nature, Sanjaya reports a teaching that emphasizes how uncommon genuine insight into the ātman is—some see it, some can explain it, some can hear it properly, yet many still fail to understand.
