Lament in Hastināpura after the Elders’ Forest Withdrawal
tām ṛṣir varado vyāso dūraśravaṇadarśanaḥ
The verse highlights the moral authority of a true ṛṣi: wisdom is paired with compassion and the capacity to perceive beyond ordinary limits, enabling guidance that supports dharma and alleviates suffering.
Vaiśampāyana introduces Vyāsa as a boon-granting sage with extraordinary distant hearing and sight, signaling that Vyāsa is about to intervene or advise with knowledge that transcends normal human perception.
