Lord Vishnu (teaching Garuda/Vinatā-putra)

Concept: Kali is the foremost corrupter, specifically attacking Viṣṇu’s devotees; spiritual life requires guarding devotion against slander and contamination.

Vedantic Theme: Bhakti as protective orientation amid kali-doṣa; the power of saṅga (association) and doṣa (corrupting influence).

Application: Maintain sādhusaṅga, avoid blasphemy and cynical company, strengthen nāma-smaraṇa and scriptural grounding to withstand Kali’s tactics.

Primary Rasa: raudra

Secondary Rasa: bhayanaka

FAQs

This verse highlights Kali as the most dangerous influence because he specifically targets devotion—by defiling conduct and fostering criticism or corruption among Viṣṇu’s devotees.

It frames decline not only as social disorder but as an inner attack on bhakti—Kali’s hallmark here is the ‘dūṣaka’ tendency: polluting faith through slander, temptation, and moral weakening.

Guard devotional life from cynicism, gossip, and habits that erode integrity; strengthen bhakti through sādhana, good company (sat-saṅga), and respectful speech toward sincere practitioners.
